The Avian and Exotic Service treats birds and exotic pets including parrots, backyard poultry, wild birds, domestic rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas, domestic ferrets, sugar gliders, hedgehogs, rats, pot-bellied pigs, lizards, turtles, tortoises, and snakes, among others. We do not treat or work with any inherently dangerous species such as large carnivores, primates, or venomous animals. Qualified applicants must have a strong interest in birds and other exotic pets and be open to learning about this highly specialized type of veterinary medicine. Preference will be given to candidates who possess experience with these unique species.
Duties of the avian/exotics technician include, but are not limited to:
- Calculating dosages accurately and administering medications via varied routes
- Maintaining patient cleanliness and comfort
- Phone triage and providing clients with patient updates
- Communicating changes in patient status to the appropriate person(s)
- Maintaining a well-stocked, neat, and organized work environment
- Assisting with and performing collection and submission of diagnostic samples
- Performing in-house diagnostic testing
- Gently and carefully handling and restraining patients
- Performing general anesthesia on exotic pets
- Filling prescriptions
- Performing a variety of standard and advanced patient treatments
The successful candidate will be capable of working independently with little supervision but must also work with other teams toward a hospital-wide shared sense of responsibility. S/he should be willing to participate in the training and education of veterinary students and interns and is expected to take an active role in doing so. Other desirable qualities include strong organizational skills and work ethic, excellent written and verbal communication skills, a keen ability to multi-task, and a quiet, calm demeanor around exotic patients. Qualifications include:
- At least 2 years of experience as a veterinary technician or recent graduation from an AVMA-accredited technician program
- Strong technical skills including medical math, general laboratory, anesthesia and pharmacology skills
- Knowledge of basic medical terminology
- Working knowledge of the indications, adverse effects, and dosing considerations for commonly used veterinary medications
- Ability to work both independently with little supervision as well as part of a team
- Strong work ethic and good organizational and multi-tasking skills
- Able to lift 50 pounds
- Schedule compatibility including daytime hours

Carolina Veterinary Specialists in Huntersville, North Carolina would like to add an Emergency Veterinarian to our team!
We are a busy emergency service which employs multiple doctors and a committed team of strong technicians, including a dedicated ICU team to care for hospitalized patients 24 hours/day. There is a strong sense of case sharing and communication between our services which is facilitated by twice daily rounds. Quality of life outside of the practice is something we strongly support. For this reason, the majority of our ER vets work a combination of daytime and overnight shifts, never more than 4 shifts in a row, with large blocks of time off. This position will allow you to live out the benefits of generous compensation that will exceed that of most general practice jobs with more time off to enjoy life.

Summary: Responsible for all aspects of patient care in ICU including hourly treatments, seeing daytime emergencies, directly overseeing critical patients, communicating/updating doctors and staff about their patients in ICU, performing CPR when needed on emergencies and in house cases.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Bleach ICU cage doors monthly
- Client communication/patient updates as needed
- Facilitate client/patient visits as needed

- Appropriately restrain patients for examinations, procedures and blood draws
- Catheter Placement/Blood Draws
- Proactive role in patient hospitalization and treatment procedures
- Proactive role in communication with doctors and staff about their patients in ICU
- Monitor patient parameters and notify doctor of potential concerns
- Great ability to multi-task
- Outstanding nursing and observation skills
- Take proactive role in life-saving techniques during CPR, as necessary
- Maintain a clean ICU environment

Summary of Position:
Responsible for all aspects of the Emergency department flow, including patient triage, history taking, performing diagnostics, patient restraint, administering and monitoring anesthesia in the pre-, peri-, and post-procedure periods, assisting in diagnostic and surgical procedures, medication administration and refills, discharging, and client communications.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Properly maintain and operate all instruments used in the Emergency department
- Maintain a clean, organized working environment in Treatment and exam rooms, diagnostic areas and surgery suite by cleaning tables, mopping and disinfecting area and equipment.
- Receive incoming emergencies, triage patient and monitor vitals
- Accurate patient histories
- Communicate patient status to Emergency Doctor and other staff
- Perform or assist in diagnostic procedures including blood work, radiographs, ultrasounds, blood pressure and ECG monitoring
- Use appropriate precautions for patients with possible infectious disease
- Ability to properly restrain patients for examinations, diagnostics and procedures
- Ability to place catheters and draw blood in patients with compromised veins
- Properly prep and scrub patients for sterile surgical or diagnostic procedures
- Monitor patient parameters and notify doctor of potential concerns
- Take proactive role in life-saving techniques including CPR, as necessary
- Properly record patient vitals and trends on anesthesia flow sheet
- Proper handling of diagnostic specimens during procedure and facilitating the proper care including accurate testing and documentation
- Client communications according to hospital policy

Position Overview: The Hospital Manager works daily to develop an efficient and effective hospital support team by fostering an environment of trust, teamwork, and accountability. The Hospital Manager partners with the Veterinarian to provide an efficient and profitable operation by driving revenue and managing costs while creating a hospital culture based on high-quality patient care and excellent customer service.
Essential Position Functions:
- Supervises the staff within all hospital support departments; achieves and maintains all labor goals.
- Hires and trains office and technical clinic support staff; responsible for new hire paperwork.
- Orients and trains new clinic staff to the hospital and duties.
- Reviews work performance of direct reports, constructively delivers feedback, resolves personnel issues, and discussions with the Regional Manager weekly.
- Conducts timely performance appraisals.
- Documents and reports accidents; files appropriate reports.
- Writes policies/procedures relating to all technical aspects of the hospital and presents for approval.
- Manages schedules for technical and administrative staff coordinates the DVM.
- Monitors Workforce Management for missed punches and management of overtime hours daily.
- Administers the daily operations.
- Works with the PetVet Care Centers support team to ensure compliance with all administrative responsibilities.
- Monitors budgets, purchases equipment and supplies, and oversees the maintenance of the facility.
- Responsible for submitting contract veterinarian invoices, submitting all local vendor invoices, ensuring invoice accuracy, and obtaining w9’s from local vendors.
- Assists in resolving issues with pet owners where appropriate.
- Reviews revenue, labor, and employee issues with the PetVet leadership on a weekly conference call; achieve goals set in each area.
- Responsible for all local accounting functions; ensure daily financial information is accurate.
- Oversees the management of the inventory and ensures proper documentation and systems are in place.
- May establish and oversee billing practices; reviews and maintains the accuracy of billing and oversees charge capturing.
- May be responsible for contracts or negotiations with insurance providers.
- Maintain compliance of current licensure and the display of the same. Maintaining updated licenses for DVMs.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Manager.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, health science or related field strongly preferred.
- At a minimum, five years of direct office management experience, including at least two years of supervisory experience is required.
- Certified Veterinary Practice Manager (CVPM) or Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA) is preferred.
- May consider an equivalent combination of education, certification, training, and/or experience.
Position Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
- Ability to provide customer service in a courteous, prompt, and efficient manner.
- Computer proficiency in using Microsoft Office products (Word, Outlook, and Excel) and applicable organization-specific software.
- Establish and maintain productive and cooperative working relationships.

- Must be flexible with scheduling and able to work some weekends and holidays.

The receptionist is often the first point of contact with a new client or referring veterinarian. There is only one chance to make a positive first impression and it takes exceptional service skills to make it happen. The receptionist must be friendly, professional, courteous, show urgency and appropriate concern at all times. They must be efficient in handling difficult service situations and skilled at basic accounting and cash handling. They must be positive, empathetic and optimistic at all times.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Greet clients in a friendly, professional, and efficient manner
- Answer multi-line phone system and direct the calls accordingly
- Obtain medical and other information from referring vets
- Schedule and confirm appointments
- Check-in patients in the hospital according to schedule and prepare patient files
- Page overhead to notify appropriate departments that patients have arrived
- Scan or otherwise record medical records
- Make sure the lobby and reception areas are organized and neat, including stocking and cleaning the beverage areas for clients
